MIT Great Debate via YouTube, Should Academic DEI Programs be Abolished?
April 4, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 11:30 pm
In this debate, co-hosted by the MIT chapter of the Adam Smith Society and the MIT Free Speech Alliance two teams will debate the place of academic diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in higher education and whether they should be abolished – a move increasingly called for by DEI critics, including in state government. The debate takes place at MIT on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at 7:30 PM, and will be moderated by Nadine Strossen, past national president of the American Civil Liberties Union.
The two teams at this Oxford Union-style debate will argue the following resolution:
“Resolved, that academic DEI programs should be abolished.”
Arguing for the affirmative:
-Heather Mac Donald, Thomas W. Smith Fellow, Manhattan Institute
-Patanjali (Pat) Kambhampati, Professor of Chemistry, McGill University
Arguing for the negative:
-Pamela Denise Long, CEO, Youthcentrix Therapy Services and contributor, Newsweek magazine
-Karith Foster, Founder, Inversity Solutions
